So, picture this: you are out on a Friday night at the club and you meet this guy or girl that asks you out to dinner. You think they are fairly attractive and figure why not so you set up a date for the following night. You have a decent time and go to the movies during the week. Things are still okay and so you agree to accompany them to their family barbeque the next weekend. Then it happens; you see their brother or sister and the lightning bolt strikes – you are instantly attracted to them. You met them first but now their brother/sister is of more interest to you, so what do you do?

This is a sticky situation and you may be surprised to find out how often it happens. You found the original person you were dating to be somewhat attractive, it is no surprise that their sibling will share similar qualities that would also attract you. But, the sibling just might be a better match for you in other ways. There is a reason for everything and the reason you met the original date may just have been so you could find their brother or sister – how is that for logic?

Unfortunately, making the switch isn’t going to be a comfortable or easy task and may not even be possible. You can’t exactly come out and tell the sibling that you are more interested in them and assess their interest before dumping their brother/ sister. There may be hurt feelings not only between you and the person you were dating, but between the siblings as well and you certainly don’t want to be the cause of a family feud because that would not be a great way to start a new relationship. So what do you do?
You could just let the person you are dating know that things aren’t going to work out between you and decide to be just friends. Sometimes just the fact that you are so attracted to someone else is enough of a clue that you aren’t meant to be with this person that you should call things off. From there you will have to decide if it is worth pursuing their sibling or if you should just let things lie and look for your soulmate elsewhere. Getting in touch with the sibling could be tricky since you can’t exactly call their brother or sister and ask for their number, not to mention they may not be interested in dating their siblings leftovers or rejects.

You may, however, have gathered enough information about the sibling to accidentally run into them somewhere and see if there is a spark on their side. Or you may decide to still date their brother or sister to see what happens. Maybe you could arrange a double date where you attempt to set-up the sibling with someone you know the person you are dating may be interested in. Of course your friend would be in on the plan and try to chat up your date while you assess the interest of the sibling. This is a risky endeavor, but hey, it works in the movies! If the interest is strong enough you may decide to go for it – realistically what do you have to lose?
