Has Your Sexual Relationship Developed into a Friendship

707825_thumbnail1A sexual relationship differs from an intimate or romantic one in the sense that though both involve sexual attraction, the latter also has emotions at stake. A sexual relationship often referred to as a passing fling or a one-night stand or a casual relationship, on the other hand, is just what its name implies; simple physical gratification with no strings attached and no emotional involvement. Friendship is something more profound; it is a relationship which is based on mutual affection and fondness and without any physical involvement.

Many persons tumble from one sexual relationship to the other without caring about the consequences. They find it difficult to nurture relationships and cannot form lasting bonds with anyone. Bed-hopping seems to be their only emotional release at the subconscious level and they are happy to let things remain at that. Sexual freedom is what they are aiming at and they indulge in it without a second thought and they are perfectly fine keeping their relationships purely at the physical level.

On the other hand, there are few who are not promiscuous by nature but circumstances or emotional upsets have led them to be so. Initially, they are ok with their lifestyle preferring the freedom of a physical relationship to an emotional one. Many have had bad relationships and have no wish to get involved in any sort of romantic entanglements again. But what happens when pure sexual attraction starts developing into something more emotional especially from the side of only one partner? This is where the problem arises and if you are caught in the same dilemma, you have to learn to tackle it as best as you can.

When one partner starts wanting something more than a physical relationship, it can get tough on that partner especially if there is no reciprocation from the other side. Emotions developing only in the mind of one partner can lead to complications and heartbreak. Some people just go off their sexual partners and can only feel platonic friendship for them. The other partner may want to continue their physical relationship while the other may be totally unwilling.

In cases where both partners are in a relationship with very clear thoughts and nothing beyond the physical aspects, things turn out fine. One doesn’t wish to continue; so, its goodbye. But, even if one partner gets slightly involved emotionally, it gets difficult to put the break-up so blandly.

The person who wants simply friendship or the person who wants something more than a sexual relationship are two different entities. The former means putting an end to any sort of physical intimacy while the latter is searching for more intimacy than that and would like to be even friends only if the other partner would permit it.

There are always two sides to a coin and if you find your sexual relationship developing into a friendship you can either take it a as boon or as a bane, depending upon your perception.
