You say at the time this happened your were not together - then your (ex)boyfriend had every right to "move on". The fact that he chose someone you both knew was not the smartest move but he may have done that because he wanted you to find out - basically to make you jealous. I get the impression you are back together and since I don't know why you split it is hard to make a definitive call here. If you are now happy with him you will have to let the past go and move on - if you can't do that then set him free but remember he has every right to move on and any direction he want to.
